Search the Internet for the Top 10 nutritious foods and you will find salmon listed right alongside berries, broccoli and beans. Here’s why. Salmon is a great source of protein, providing nearly 45% of your recommended daily value. It’s also loaded with Omega 3 fatty acids, which have been shown to reduce the risk of sudden cardiac death and are associated with better cholesterol levels. In addition, Salmon is high in B vitamins, including more than 60 percent of the recommend daily value of vitamin B-12 (which helps with the formation of red blood cells and energy metabolism).

Almost all Atlantic salmon is farmed, close to 99%, while Pacific salmon is about 80% raised in the wild. However, I was surprised to learn that the ratio of farmed raised salmon versus wild salmon worldwide is 85 to 1.

Over the last few years, there have been concerns about contamination of farmed raised salmon with PCBs, a toxic man-made chemical. But a 2006 study by the Journal of the American Medical Association said risks of PCB exposure were not a cause of concern compared to salmon’s health benefits. Experts advise that you trim the visible fat from the salmon because that’s where any toxins accumulate, and recommend grilling or broiling to reduce the fat levels in the fish.

One of my favorite salmon recipes is Baked Salmon with Lemon and Dill. It’s so easy to make with Wildtree’s products. Wildtree products are all natural, meaning they contain no preservatives, MSG, food dyes or additives. They also have no high fructose corn syrup, genetically modified ingredients or irradiated ingredients.

Wildtree’s grapeseed oil is expeller pressed, has one of the lowest levels of saturated fat of all oils, not hydrogenated, no cholesterol, and easily digestible. It’s a good source of Vitamin E Alpha, an important antioxidant. It has the highest flashpoint of any oil, 420 degrees, which means it is excellent for cooking and frying since it can be heated to that high temperature before burning.

Dill has been used for both its culinary and medicinal properties for thousands of years. This herb enhances digestion and gives relief from insomnia, hiccups, diarrhea, and respiratory disorders.
